Bank Debits & Approved ACH IDs

Last updated: January 22, 2025

This is a guide that will teach you:

  • What is an ACH ID and why does it matter?

  • The ACH IDs to have your customers' bank or your bank approve to avoid failed payment

What is a bank account debit?

Debits from a bank account refer to any transactions where funds are withdrawn or deducted. This is how Ascend processes payments via ACH when an insured enters their bank account information into a payment link, or when your agency pays your balance to Ascend or MGAs/wholesalers that use Ascend for billing.

Why would a bank block a debit transaction?

  • Banks might block certain debits if they detect suspicious activity, such as unauthorized transactions, if the account lacks sufficient funds to complete the transaction, or if debits are blocked by default for the bank account, which can happen for corporate bank accounts with more complex risk controls enabled.

  • When this happens, the bank needs to whitelist the ACH IDs for Stripe, Ascend's payment processing partner, in order for the transaction to succeed.

What is an ACH ID?

  • An ACH ID is a 10-digit number/code that allows banks to identify the entity being paid on a given transaction.

  • Some banks require ACH IDs to be pre-loaded for anti-fraud measures or various securities that a bank account might have in place.

  • Sharing approved ACH IDs with the bank can avoid unneeded delays and payment failures. If your customer's bank blocks an ACH payment, we recommend they share the following ACH IDs and entity name to be automatically approved when charged:

    • 1800948598 - Stripe Payments Company

    • 4270465600 - Stripe Payments Company

Stripe Payments Company is Ascend's payment processing partner

What to do if your bank or your insured's bank blocks a debit transaction

You should share the following template with your insured to request that their bank whitelist the IDs, or you can share with your bank to ensure debits from Ascend aren't blocked:

Specifically, we need a letter from the banking institution which includes a statement that the authorization restrictions have been lifted and the Stripe ACH ID has been added to the bank's allowlist as well as the bank account's full account and routing number.

Once you receive this letter, share it with Ascend by sending to [email protected].
